A Plague Tale: Innocence – Chapter 1: The de Rune Legacy. The first chapter in A Plague Tale: Innocence is “The de Rune Legacy”. This chapter introduces you to the De Rune family, and teaches you a few basic concepts of the game.
Robert and Amicia are in the forest having some quality father/daughter time. You control Amicia. There is some friendly bantering between Amica and Robert, and Robert is asking Amica why she specifically wanted to go to this part of the forest. The conversation grows a little bit serious, and the player starts to learn a little bit about the De Rune family.
A PlagueTale: Innocence – A tender moment between Amicia and Lion.
You get introduced to the first actions of the game at this point:
E – to interact with someone or an object
F – to look
Please note that these are as per the default settings on a Windows computer (other platforms have different action buttons). These buttons are also set to the default. If you customize them, the above will be inaccurate.
Gather rocks for the sling
A PlagueTale: Innocence – Follow Robert until you reach the apple tree – your sling training ground. Gather Rocks for the Sling. Near the trunk to the east of the Apple Tree, you can find some rocks to use in your sling.
Shoot at the apples
A PlagueTale: Innocence – Shoot at the apples. Press and hold the right and left button of your mouse until the reticule shrinks to roughly the size of the apple, then release your left button. You will shoot at the apple and shatter it. Whether you manage to shoot all 6 apples before Robert counts to 10 does not matter.
Follow Lion
As you follow Lion, you are now introduced to a few more actions you can perform in the game.
C – to crouch under things
Shift – to sprint
Space – to jump over things (or climb onto them)
You eventually catch up to Lion and find out why he ran ahead – he saw a wild boar!
Sneak up on the young wild boar
A Plague Tale: Innocence – Sneak up on the wild boar. You will miss the opportunity to shoot the wild boar the first time, no matter what you do. Go into the tall grass as Robert suggests and sneak up on the boar and aim with at its head. If you have no rocks, there will be some lying nearby. Once you hit the head, a cutscene will follow with Amicia promising Robert that they will dine like kings!
Find Lion
A PlagueTale: Innocence – Find Lion. Amicia is worried about Lion, and she starts to frantically look for him. Amicia notices that the trees were damaged and wonders what caused the damage. Keep going on the linear road, and you will eventually catch up with Lion… Unfortunately, it is not good news.A Plague Tale: Innocence – Lion in trouble
Find Beatrice in Hugo’s quarters
When Amicia and Robert arrives back at the De Rune estate, Amicia is still very upset about their loss. Before finding Baatrice, there are some things you need to do. You control Amicia. Head right from where you start, and on your left, you’ll see the stables. Walk past Theo and tell him what Robert said. As you get to the last stable, you will see a ladder. Go up the ladder to find the Gift 1, the Duck Whistle.
Next, go back down the ladder and keep left. Just behind the last stable door, you will find an ally way that leads you to the pots that Theo has set up for you to practice your sling. You can also reach this part by going back where you started, and moving forward until you are in front of a heavy metal door, and then turn right. Amicia will tell you that you found the spot. Do some target practice against the pots. There are some rocks to pick if you do not have any.
A Plague Tale: Innocence – Practice your slingingA Plague Tale: Innocence – Turn left here, speak to Flore and enter the church. After practicing your slinging, go to the big metal door and keep left. Speak to Flore, and enter the church. Send up a quick prayer if you wish, then go out the other door of the Church, keep left and speak to Gabrielle.A Plague Tale: Innocence – After speaking to Gabrielle, enter the door behind her, and keep right – you need to find a curiosity.A Plague Tale: Innocence – Climb up this ladder to get a curiosity.A Plague Tale: Innocence – Once you entered the house after speaking to Gabrielle, keep right (do not go upstairs yet) and go through the door where the servant is busy in the kitchen. Keep left from there, and you will see a ladder in the room just before the room where a servant (Lea) is cooking. Climb up this ladder to get Curiosity 1, Spices.A Plague Tale: Innocence – Go through the archway on the left here, then go up the stairs. Go back down the ladder and speak to Lea of you wish. It does not make any difference whether you do or not, so it is up to you. Then go back to the main entrance of the quarters, and head up the stairs, through the archway shown above.A Plague Tale: Innocence – Find Curiosity 2, Tablecloth, on your bed as Louise indicated. Before going into the chambers on the right, follow Louise instead to find Curiosity 2, Table Cloth. Once you’ve taken that, backtrack to the big chamber door where you met up with Louise, and enter.A Plague Tale: Innocence – A cinematic will play, where the player is introduced to Beatrice, Amicia’s mom. She dismisses the attacks on Lion, and tells you that she does not have time right now. Suddenly, there is a commotion in the yard, and Beatrice tells Amicia to close the door behind her and not to open the shutters. Here you get introduce to Beatrice, Amicia’s mother.
Find Hugo
A Plague Tale: Innocence – Your next task is to find Hugo. After the cinematic with Beatrice, go back into the room where Beatrice was sitting, and then take a left. go through the doorway opposite you, and look behind a curtain where Hugo is hiding. The player meets Hugo for the first time. Amicia does not see him much.
Get out of the house
A Plague Tale: Innocence – At this point, there is another commotion in the yard, and Amica watches her father being killed. Here, the player gets introduced to another action: to call allies or ask them to wait. Press Z. When Hugo reaches you, leave the room when the guard has his back turned to you.
Leave through the door on the left where the guard is with his back turned to you, and hide behind the desk. Another guard will come in, and speak to Gabrielle. Leave where he came in when his back is turned to you. You’ll see Lea being murdered.
A Plague Tale: Innocence – Lea is murdered, and you need to slip past the guard. Slip past the guard that killed Lea once he enters your room, and go down the spiral stairs that you came up to the chambers with. As you get down the stairs, keep left. You’ll see Louise being attacked. Slip past the guard while he is busy.A Plague Tale: Innocence – Hide behind here while the guard attacks Louise. Slip through the door opposite you in the screenshot above, and you will see more servants being killed.A Plague Tale: Innocence – Keep straight ahead here, then left, into the room where the spices was, then one room on where Lea was cooking.A Plague Tale: Innocence – When you get to the door where Lea was cooking, open it. You will walk into a trap but will be rescued by Beatrice.
Follow Beatrice
A Plague Tale: Innocence – Listen to Beatrice, and you’ll be okay. In this case, you’re hiding in the tall grass as you sneak past some guards. Follow Beatrice as she leads you through the estate. All you need to do is to listen to what Beatrice says. Crouch (C) when needed, get into the tall grass when needed, and so on.A Plague Tale: Innocence – The road is pretty linear for most of the game. Keep following Beatrice through the estate. In the scene shown above, you’ll learn how to throw projectiles. Pick up the rocks near Beatrice, and throw a rock at the helmets. That will distract the guard long enough for your convoy to sneak past him. Do that one more time a little bit further, until you get to a place with two pots, as shown below.A Plague Tale: Innocence – Pick up one of the pots, and throw it on the ground near the guard, so that he is attracted away from you. Use a pot when there are no metallic objects that can make noise. When a pot is selected, you can see which guards will be attracted to the noise it makes by a shimmer around the guard. Once you have sneaked past the guard, you get to a locked door. You need to ask Hugo to crawl through a hole in the wall to open it for you. This introduces you to a new action, Q, used to ask your companions to do something,A Plague Tale: Innocence – Face the wall, and then press Q to ask Hugo to crawl through it to open the locked door from the outside for you. Once Hugo opened the door, grab his hand again, and follow Beatrice when it is safe to do so. Climb through the window as shown below.A Plague Tale: Innocence – Follow Beatrice through the window shown here.A Plague Tale: Innocence – In this section, you will see a guard pacing up and down. You have to sneak past him. Hugo will have one of his episodes, and Beatrice will remind you that you need to let him go first, and help him, or he will get upset, and attract enemies. Help Hugo over a fence while still following Beatrice, and get into the tall grass.A Plague Tale: Innocence – Once over the walkway, keep left to sneak in the tall grass., Pick up the pot and distract the guard, then call Hugo and Beatrice. There are two pots across the walkway he is on. Press Z to tell Hugo an Beatrice to stay behind, and climb over the wall when he is not looking, and sneak across the walkway. Sneak into the tall grass across the walkway as shown below.A Plague Tale: Innocence – Follow Beatrice again to the last guard you need to slip past. Distract him by throwing a rock at the helmets close to you while you’re hiding. You can then sneak past him when he turns back to his position. Lambert will help you escape the estate. Shortly after, you’ll see a very sad event…A Plague Tale: Innocence – It is time to run! Hold both Shift and W. Luckily the path is very linear. You can’t go wrong. Run until Amicia and Hugo get to a river and are forced to jump down the cliff into the river.
