I – Under a New Sun is a chapter in A Plague Tale: Requiem. The date is June 1349, several months after the proceedings of A Plague Tale: Innocence ended. Amicia, Hugo and Lucas are playing in the fields.
This chapter serves as a basic introduction to the game play for players who have not played the prequel. You can still purchase it on Steam if you would rather do that first before returning to this tutorial.
In our previous A Plague Tale tutorial, we have used a lightbox to facilitate the tutorial, and we have gotten some feedback that it is a bit tricky on smaller screens, so for this one, we will retain the lightbox if you simply want to scroll the screenshots, but the text and instructions will be in the body of the post. We hope this one works easier for you guys!
Finally, due to the stunning visual effects of this game, this tutorial will be very screenshot heavy. If the page loads a bit slow, please follow the text in the mean time 🙂 We will also make a tutorial where we only use images where absolutely necessary. Please be patient.

Follow King Hugo


To complete this objective, simply press W (or your chosen key if you changed the defaults) to walk forward. You will then get an instruction to run, by pressing or holding Shift (or your chosen key). From here on, I will not keep saying (or your chosen key) as it is obvious, and the game will guide you with instructions on what to do. See an example of the instruction style (customizable) as you go along.

Walk and run after Hugo until he stops to talk about his new Castle. At the end of that cutscene, this objective is over, and you can start the next one.
Hide from Lucas the Perfidious

Three are many places to hide. You need to stay out of Lucas’ sight for a little while, and the objective will be complete.

After some time the objective will change. Amicia will suggest to Hugo that they hunt Lucas the Perfidious for a change. At that point, this objective is complete.
Scare Lucas the Perfidious

Crouch-walking from our hiding place, ensuring that we stay out of sight of Lucas at all times, we finally catch up to him, and scare him from behind. That concludes this objective.
Reach the Castle

Lucas will leave to go study, and Amicia and Hugo will head on to King Hugo’s castle. Just follow Hugo and play along. Once you get to the river, the objective is complete.
Defend King Hugo’s kingdom

Amicia now needs to defend King Hugo’s Castle from the invading army of Evil Pinecones! Keep firing at them, take them out before they pass Amicia in the stream. After about 6 or so have been taken out, you will meet a new friend, Tonin, who lives nearby, and he will want to play with you. He will command the cannon. Continue taking out the evil invaders until Tonin says that he has to get back to work.

If you shot all the cones without a single one passing by you, you will get the Steam achievement, Perfect Shot. This will conclude the objective.
Follow the river

Amicia and Hugo will now follow the river upstream. Here you’ll learn how to do a few more of the game’s mechanics, such as climbing onto objects or jumping over them, or crouching underneath them.

Hugo and Amicia reaches another castle, and they decide to attack it. Hugo charges forward, and they find the gate locked! How rude!

Attack the castle
With the gate locked, the children now need to find a different way to enter their enemy stronghold. Luckily, the secret entrance was not hidden to well…

Look to your left! Look to your left! Sneak in and go up the stairs. At the top of the stairs, keep walking forward. Amicia and Hugo will fall. You end up in someone’s home. This completes the objective.
Find a way out of the castle

Amicia and Hugo explores the little place they fell into and finds a door. When they exit, they see a devastating scene…

Everything is burned down! Clearly, all is not peaceful in the Kingdom of France. Amicia and Hugo speculates about what happened here, and where the people are.

The path is very straight, you can’t go wrong. Just walk up to here, and climb down this obstacle using Space.

Amicia and Hugo come across a beekeeper, who is not happy to see them, and is going to attack. Amicia and Hugo needs to run. Run and press or hold Shift to run as fast as you can, dodge, climb over or crawl under obstacles, while continuously staying as far as possible from the attacker.

As Amicia and Hugo run for their lives, and finally escapes through a narrow passage, they see more people being chased. Stay crouched in the tall grass, or you will be killed too!

Why are these people chasing the them? We see the first glimpses as to why. It seems as if they are being looted and targeted, By acticing decisively, they feel they will keep “them” from coming back. Stay crouched, and sneak out when the immediate danger is gone. Keep going right, and when you reach the guy on the right when he is sitting with his back towards you, sneak over the field to the next one.

Once across, another person will call him. Stay hidden. When Mathias leaves to see about his granddad, crawl forward.

Jump over the obstacle to get into Mathias’ hut, and then, once inside, wait for Mathias to conclude his conversation then open the back door.

When you slip out of the back door, one beekeeper stays behind. He won’t move. You will have to distract him. Throw a rock by hand to the tool crate to his left.

When he goes to investigate, crouch past him until you reach a field. Crouch into the field and stay out of siight.


Keep going forward, and you will find a small space Amicia and Hugo can crawl under to their right. Use Space to crawl.

Crawl under the space, and wait, as there is a guy that will kill you if he sees you. When he walks away, Amica and Hugo needs to come out of their crawl space, but unfortunately, some bees will sting Amica, and the man will be alerted. Here you will learn to distract an enemy that has already been alerted to your presence: press E.

When Amicia distracted the man, then can crawl further, and out the back gate, and then into the tall grass where they will be safe for a bit. Keep crawling forward in the tall grass.

When you move forward, you will find some pots on Amicia’s left. Use one of the pots to distract the guy. Throw it behind him, so you can sneak past.

Once the man is distracted with the pot, sneak past him and move towards the door shown above. It is locked. Hugo notices a tight crawl space. Press Alt to see interaction options, then press E to ask Hugo to crawl through. He will open the gate for you to get out.

Once outside the gate, Amicia and Hugo needs to get to the pig den, where they will run into a scene where Tonin is getting hurt. Amicia, being who she is, steps in, and a fight ensues.

Amicia slapped one attacker, and then got tackled by another, who she stabbed with his own knife before he overwhelmed her and Hugo passed out.

Hugo wakes up and finds an eagle staring at him. He is looking for Amicia.
Follow the bird

After a brief cutscene, where we see Hugo’s rat problem returning, we are tasked to follow the bird. So follow the bird, mate!

Climb up the obstacle to where the bird leads you, and you will stumble on this breathtaking scene:

Hugo needs to keep following the bird for now. Just keep going. Hugo is complaining, he does not feel well. Just keep going.

As Hugo stumbles along, he eventually is overcome by weakness and collapses. Everything goes darker and out of focus. Keep following the bird.

As Hugo stumbles along, following the bird, he wonders if he is dying. When his hands touch the water of the river he is led to, he sees the effect of the disease receding. Hugo wakes up, and…

We hear that Hugo was dreaming his “Island dream” again. It is at this time unclear what happened exactly, but we will soon find out…
Reach the city

Here we realized what happened. Amicia have managed to defend herself and Hugo successfully, and possibly also Tonin (we do not know that for sure yet). The people that stopped them says that someone killed their family and that there were witnesses. Amicia urges Beatrice that they have to move on.

Beatrice, Lucas and Hugo are fleeing with the cart. Amicia, well, is… shall we say… going to be OK?

Amicia now needs to sneak in the tall grass and evade the men after her. Her sling is left behind in the cart. Walk forward, but be careful. You will get to an obstacle you can climb down off, into another field.
Find the others

Stay out of sight. The enemies are alerted. If they see Amicia, she will certainly be killed, as she does not have her sling. Crawl around without being seen, and distract the attackers as needed to move forward.

When Amicia is out of the grass, she will be spotted. She will run-fall down a hill and the attackers will set flame to the grass. Run towards the nearest house and enter.

Run through the burning fields and enter the house ahead of Amicia. She will be attacked, but luckily some heavy rocks and wood will fall on her attacker’s head, and she can escape. Climb up onto the roof of the house and down on the other side. Now Amicia has to do what she does best.

Amicia has to take out about 5 or 6 enemies here. Luckily, she never has to pick up rocks. She has an infinite amount thereof. once the threats are out, explore the area. There is a narrow gap obscured by branches to crawl through, and as soon as Amicia gets through, she will hear Beatrice screaming, and will need to disable a guy by stealth. Follow the path next to the flames, and kill the person attacking Beatrice. That will end the game.
